What is Electrotherapy (TENS)?

Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) is a method of pain relief involving the use of a mild electrical current. A TENS machine delivers small electrical pulses to the body via electrodes placed on the skin.

TENS is thought to work in two ways: The electrical impulses can block pain signals from reaching the brain and spinal cord, and it may also stimulate the production of endorphins, which are the body’s natural painkillers.

TENS is completely non-invasive and drug-free, making it an excellent option for those seeking natural pain management.

How It Works

TENS works through the Gate Control Theory of pain. Low-frequency electrical impulses stimulate sensory nerves, which block pain signals from reaching the brain. Additionally, the stimulation triggers the release of endorphins - the body's natural painkillers. Different frequencies target different types of pain.
